Expert Artificial Grass Installation

Our professional installation team create a flawless finish every time.

Laying artificial grass is a precise process that requires careful preparation to ensure a durable, well-draining, and aesthetically pleasing result. Our professional method involves creating a stable sub-base before installing the grass itself.

1. Site Preparation and Excavation
The first and most critical step is to prepare the existing ground.

Removal of Existing Lawn: All existing natural turf and a layer of subsoil are removed to a depth of approximately 50mm to 100mm, depending on the ground conditions. This is typically done using a turf cutter.

2. Sub-Base Installation
This layer is crucial for stability and drainage.

A layer of crushed aggregate is laid. This provides a hard, permeable foundation that allows water to drain away.

Compaction: The aggregate is then thoroughly compacted using a vibrating plate compactor to prevent future sinkage and create a solid, stable base.

3. Laying Course and Final Surface Preparation
This layer ensures a smooth, even finish for the turf.

A layer of sharp sand is spread over the compacted sub-base. This finer material fills any voids and creates a perfectly smooth surface.

This layer is also compacted with a vibrating plate. The surface is then checked with a straight edge level to ensure it is completely flat.

4. Weed Membrane Installation
A weed membrane is installed to prevent organic growth from penetrating the new lawn.

A high quality geotextile weed membrane is rolled out and laid over the entire prepared base. The pieces overlap to ensure a continuous barrier.

The membrane is secured to the perimeter edging or the ground, and any excess is trimmed.

5. Artificial Grass Installation
This is where the transformation really takes place!

The rolls of artificial grass are unrolled and positioned over the weed membrane. It is important we ensure the pile direction is uniform across all rolls, typically facing the main viewing point (e.g., the house) for the most natural appearance.

The turf is carefully cut to size and shape ensuring a neat fit around all edges.

Joining Seams: For larger areas, seams between rolls are joined using our specialist jointing adhesive system. The grass edges are folded back, the tape is laid underneath, adhesive is applied, and the grass is carefully pressed back into place to create an invisible join.

6. Final Fixing and Infill

The final steps secure the turf and complete the look.

Sand Infill: Kiln-dried sand is spread evenly over the entire surface. This serves multiple purposes: it weighs the grass down, protects the backing, and helps the blades stand upright.

Power Brushing: The sand is then brushed deep into the pile using a stiff bristled brush or a mechanical power brush, which also lifts and straightens the grass fibres for a lush, natural finish.
