Choosing the Best Stone for you

Natural stone types all have different inherent qualities. Colour is an important factor when choosing your perfect stone. To ensure your paving is both beautiful and practical, consider where your paving will be located, who will be using it and how it will be used.

Colour and Texture

Stone is a natural product. As such, each piece is unique, and will exhibit variations in colour, texture, veining and shading. As a result of its geological formation, some stone may contain inclusions, pits or fissures. Rather than being flaws, these characteristics all contribute to the authentic, and beautiful, appearance only natural stone can offer. The products on display should, therefore, be considered a good representative guide to the stone’s appearance.

Ordering

When working out your order quantity, cuts, waste and a small percentage of broken material should be taken into consideration. It is ‘standard’, within the industry, to add around 5-10% extra material to the final order quantity to compensate. Any damaged pieces of stone should be used for normal on-site cutting. 

Installation

Due to the potential for colour, shading and texture variances, as mentioned above, it is important that pieces of stone, from various pallets, are mixed randomly during laying. This ensures differences are not highlighted in specific areas. Natural stone looks, and performs best, when laid ‘fully bedded’ on a permeable mortar base.

Maintenance

Natural Stone paving is a very durable, low maintenance product. Occasional cleaning is recommended to ensure your paving remains in good condition for years to come. We offer a range of quality sealers and cleaners which can help prevent staining and reduce maintenance.
